QMHOA members were among those who took part in the survey. Catalyst has told us that the contribution from our members had a significant impact on the quality of the findings and has asked us to pass on its thanks to everyone who participated.
WHAT THE SURVEY TELLS US
The Ageing Matters survey was broader in scope than QMHOA’s own Home Owner Satisfaction Survey, conducted earlier this year.
Even so, one of the most significant features of the findings is how closely some of them align with what our own survey told us.
Both surveys found that the social and community aspects of park living are among the things seniors value most.
They also identified similar areas where residents would like to see improvement.
These include:
- better and more open communication from management, particularly about maintenance and future plans;
- repairs being completed more promptly and properly; and
- facilities being well maintained and, where needed, upgraded.
The broader Ageing Matters survey also explored several issues that were outside the narrower scope of QMHOA’s survey.
These included:
- the growing importance of ageing in place, including access to support services in the home;
- the increasing use of technology, such as village apps, to hear about events, request maintenance or communicate with management; and
- concerns about new residents entering communities at an older average age than in the past, and the possible impact this may have on community life within a park.
WHAT HAPPENS NEXT?
For QMHOA, the release of this report is another useful contribution to our ongoing advocacy and engagement work.
Our approach will continue to be evidence-led, constructive and focused on practical improvements across the manufactured home residential park sector.
We will use these findings to help inform home owners, brief government and other stakeholders, and engage constructively with park owners and industry participants.
We also thank all QMHOA members who took the time to participate in the Ageing Matters survey. By sharing their experiences and views, they have helped contribute to a broader understanding of what matters to older Australians living in residential communities.
